Dependent Child (age 19 or over) Leaves School

When your 19+ year old child graduates, leaves school or drops below "full time" student status (less than 8 units), the child loses eligibility for dependent coverage under the Health Plan. However, the child may be eligible for Continuation Coverage.

If you want to obtain private health insurance for your child, check out our links to external sites providing insurance quotes and information.

Benefit Plan Checklist

Items regarding the Health Plans apply only to participants in the Southern California IBEW-NECA Health Plans. However, if you participate in another electrician health plan, it is likely that similar considerations will apply.

When your child ceases to be a full time student (is enrolled in less than 8 units), you must notify the Administrative Office within 60 days. You will become liable for any health claims paid by the Trust for any services after your dependent ceases to be eligible.
Continuation Coverage can continue for up to thirty-six months provided timely payments are made.
